At the top edge of each painted trunk, red string attaches a red card with quotes from the likes of literary and spiritual leaders like Ghandi, Alice Walker, Albert Einstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Walt Whitman, Carter Haywood, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. commenting upon the horrors, losses, suffering, and evils of wars throughout human history.  The blood-red stained trees and the quotes operate, together, to encourage contemplation of the machinery behind wars and the suffering that inevitably results.

Having already lived through years when the world and my own country have been torn and divided by wars, I am convinced that each of us must, at some point, find the courage and strength to stand up and make it known that wars produce a meaningless, and unnecessary loss of human life and limb. This piece is my stand and signals my deep commitment to the potential for peace and the end to senseless conflicts stemming from the greed and indifference of a military, industrial complex.
