On one side of the ATM, the architecture of windows and steel culminate in the iconic, art deco pinnacle.
On another, an illuminated map indicates where, among other things, one can find the one available taxi on the island.
Another side reveals the multi-layered reality of NYC from deep underground to Donald Trump’s stretch-limo before the skyline.
But it is the front of this structure where viewers can interact. To engage, one must dodge the canine scat on Astro-turf; speak into a garlic-laden mic to indicate their favorite sushi; place their hand on an impossible-to-fit, three-fingered screen; and insert a credit card into the slot. (Because no New Yorker in their right mind would ever do this, a blank card has been provided!) The reward for this sequence of engagements is a computer-generated, perforated card which emerges from the machine providing the participant with a humorous, fortune-teller’s, dubious, but very “Madhattanesque,” piece of advice.
