Spirit & Substance

After immersing myself in the lives, words, and acts of these four heroic women, I brought their visions and their voices back to confront the conflicting realities of our times. A spoken word performance and, subsequent ten minute recordings accompany each lectern, creating the sense that each woman has returned to speak to the contemporary audience. 

Lecterns of monumental scale in wood were assembled for each of the women.  As sculpture, the lecterns bear symbolic references to the lives and accomplishments of each of them. Formal elements reflect the courage and integrity they possessed.
