I greatly admire Fannie Lou Hamer’s courage, brilliance, integrity, and persistence in the face of a brutal and racist system. Her ability to organize, as well as her ability to inspire people, won her a national reputation during the Civil Rights Movement. Now, more than ever, her example should be before us as we work to preserve and defend our democracy. I believe that Fannie Lou deserves a voting booth all her own.
